Communities in Enugu are still living in fear following the incessant activities of kidnappers as three groups of armed kidnappers alleged to be herdsmen during the weekend attacked buses going from Nsukka to Enugu.

An eyewitness who made a short video clip of the incident narrated that they were heading to Enugu when they ran into the three gangs of kidnappers along Nsukka-Enugu Road after Poly Police checkpoint, which resulted in severe injuries to one of the passengers

He said the kidnappers shot directly at their buses and in the process, a passenger in the front seat was hit by a bullet and was rushed to Parklane Hospital for treatment, source gathered

The eyewitness who did not disclose his identity said, “We are in Parklane Hospital now. Look at the victim. We jam (ran into) Fulani herdsmen on our way from Nsukka to Enugu, immediately after Poly checkpoint, heading to Ugwuogo. They were three groups shooting at us directly. They succeeded in shooting one man at the front. This is the kidnappers’ handwork.”

Enugu and Ebonyi State has recently been taken over by kidnappers as commuters are attacked and kidnapped almost on a daily basis.

IsL had earlier reported Thursday, how the former Secretary to the Enugu State Government (SSG), Dr. Dan Shere was kidnapped on the Ugwogo-Opi-Nsukka Road.

Also kidnapped on the road was an official of the Enugu state government identified as Mr. Foster Ugwuoke alongside other commuters.

Also on Sunday, October 23, a number of University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, students returning to school after the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, called off its eight months strike, were abducted along the same route and to date, they are yet to regain their freedom.

IsL reported that the kidnappers demanded N300 million ransom while the relatives pleaded to pay N500, 000.

Though the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and security chiefs in the state have visited the troubling area, the kidnapped victims have not regained freedom and the visit has not brought the kidnapping activities to an end.
