Adaka is a settlement about 20 kilometres on the outskirts of Makurdi LGA, Benue state capital.
Iorkohol Unande, a resident of the community who survived the incident, was quoted as saying the attack was “unprovoked”.
He reportedly said the attackers shot sporadically, injuring several persons in the community.
He said three dead bodies were recovered after the gunmen retreated.
Unande added that the victims — all men — had their bodies mutilated.
The incident comes two months after an attack on Gbeji and Ukohol communities in the Ukum area of the state, where about 60 persons, including two security personnel, were killed.
