The Council of Elders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has raised the alarm over what it described as ceaseless and unprovoked attacks in many parts of Igbo land.

The council cited the case in Enugu State, calling it a clear invasion by gunmen.

IsL source, Nation Online reports that the elders cried out that they were worried that innocent Igbos were being killed in their homes with their houses either destroyed, set ablaze or looted, while many, especially on the border with Benue and Kogi states, were fleeing their homes.

Chairman of the Council, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, while briefing newsmen in Owerri yesterday, requested both the Chairman of the Governors Forum, Southeastern Nigeria, Dave Umahi, and the President General-Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Professor George Obiozor, to urgently convene a meeting of Southeast religious, traditional and business leaders to find lasting solution to the development.

“I also, on behalf of the Council of Elders, recommend that the Southeast Governors’ Forum in association with Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide set up a Relief Committee to support all Igbos who have recently suffered from invasion by strange people and those who suffered due to flood disaster”.

“We will not fold our arms and allow our people to be killed by blood thirsty individuals under any guise because an attack on any Igbo man anywhere is an attack on all Igbo,” Iwuanyanwu said.
